We ordered our trailer months ago, while we were backpacking around South America. From a continent that size, little old Aoteoroa seems, well, tiny! So stuck in that mindframe, we purchased from a vendor in Christchurch, thinking "no problem, we'll just pop down and bring it home when we arrive."
Thanks for that, past us...
Needless to say, once we started looking into the time and cost involved in moving a large trailer over a thousand kilometers of earthquake affected road and one notoriously turbulent strait, we changed our tune a little.
Dilemma: Do we road-trip as planned, spending two days on the road and sea, or do we get the trailer shipped and spend a little more of our already shrinking budget?
After much deliberation, we went with option C: Ship the trailer across the strait and pick it up from Wellington.
To be honest, we were both not-so-secretly looking forward to becoming re-acquainted with NZ, after so long abroad.
